On the VFX artists vs Hollywood…
Some people are under the impression that VFX artists and animators just want their 5 minutes of fame on TV, they’re protesting to get paid. Most of them are workers that came out of Rhythm & Hues’ bankruptcy, which makes little sense considering their work on Life of PI just won a shit ton of awards. Way to go Academy for that bit of awkwardness and Ang Lee for thanking his lawyer instead of the people that made his vision happen at all.
These days CGI is the star of the movie and not getting paid for their work is a pretty shitty way to compensate them.
Unions are not easy to deal with, there’s a lot of pros as there are cons, it seems as though it’s going to have to happen, if this field wants to survive.
Otherwise, it’s like someone said on twitter earlier, "I hope audiences enjoyed Birdemic and Trolls 2 because once all the VFX houses are shut down, that’s what every movie will look like."
